Troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
Every transformer hums; the question is whether the sound, heat and readings are normal for that unit under that load. We investigate excessive heat, abnormal noise, odor, nuisance tripping and voltage imbalance — and a lot of calls that start as "the transformer is bad" turn out to be a loose termination, an overloaded unit, blocked ventilation or an upstream supply problem. We separate the transformer from everything around it before recommending replacement.
Maintenance is planned, de-energized work: opening and inspecting the enclosure, checking ventilation, conductors and terminations for heat damage and torque, verifying grounding, and cleaning per manufacturer requirements. Energized readings taken beforehand give the inspection context. Maintenance finds the inexpensive version of a future outage while it's still a work order — not every failure can be predicted, but the ones announcing themselves are worth catching.
